Our Mission

Helping Hands is first and foremost about community. We are a community that believes in the power of volunteering to enrich our lives and the world around us. We are a service that brings youth and good causes together. We believe that our success can be seen in the relationships formed between nonprofits and volunteers. Our aim is to build a service that will overcome the barriers that keep volunteers and nonprofits from finding each other, working together, and developing strong relationships.We believe in the power of students. The belief that they have the power to give back and deserve opportunities to build their skills.

Workshops

Through our workshops, we teach youth how to develop key soft skills and help market those skills so that they lead towards employment in an area of interest and skill. Rather than cookie-clutter presentations, we adapt our workshops to focus on interactive and facilitative learning, giving youth the opportunity to gain experience through hands-on education. We host workshops for multiple topics, interests and events that best suit the youth and educate, teach and empower them to engage with organizations/councils they’re interested in and develop the skills they’d like to.

Volunteer Fairs

We host multiple Community Volunteer Fairs for the Peel-Halton region. Many youth come to our volunteer fairs to discover various community organizations, influential youth councils, hear from speakers - including youth - on various topics, and network with like-minded professionals and youth. Most importantly, youth are able to interact with Helping Hands associates, who help guide their civil engagement endeavours, aid them in exploring their interests and nurturing skills they’re passionate about.

Mentors

Through one-on-one as well as group interactions, our youth, peer leaders help young students get engaged with their communities. They do this by understanding the youth’s interests, their skills and their passions. From there, the mentors are able to help youth get an understanding of the different pathways they should take to achieve their goals.

Councils

We believe that true and lasting change is brought on when communities are empowered. As such, we help youth find, apply and join youth councils that appeal to their interests and skill sets. This not only helps youth attain vital experiences, but also gives them an opportunity to serve other youth and unprivileged communities.

Our entrepreneurship program focuses on creating self-starting youth who form new school clubs, community organizations or companies in response to problems faced by their communities. In doing so, we support these youth with our guidance, help them secure financial support and assist them in leading their own projects.
